Illustrating the overarching theme of “race” by using a completely grayscale painted set was an attempt to underline the idea that the characters in the play lack the absolutes that they are constantly trying to obtain.  I painted doors, walls, floors, bookcases and the skyline all by hand.  The skyline seen through a large window in the office gave us a glimpse of the outside world while the heated discussions concerning race continued in the law office.
