Mad As A Hatter

The initial concept was based on the original illustrations of the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by John Tenniel. The concept for the set design was to create a world in which the illustrations are surrounding the characters and reflecting the madness of the situation. The set begins as very plain and black and white with a palpable emptiness. As the characters welcome their madness the set also changes and becomes more vibrant and colorful wonderland.

The set as designed by Jennifer Maiseloff is very well constructed for the small space, and includes innovative features to gradually transform the background over the course of the play into something more colorful as the characters all give way to their imagination and madness.
