When designing Alone With Friends I wanted to take the worlds that the character created in each of her books and bring them into her apartment. All the elements from all her writings surround her physically and create a nest or a cage for her that was built from her imagination. All of her inspirations and life exist inside that room. I wanted the design to be soft and harsh at the same time illustrated by the harsh edges of the tree wallpaper and the soft tone of the walls. She’s a messy person and I wanted to make the space appear lived in, I wanted it to be a jumble of the accidental and purposeful.
