THE BOYS IN THE BAND

The set of Boys in the Band was inspired by pop artists such as lichtenstein.  The two dimensional and abstract representation of the apartment walls are in parallel with how the main character believes reality is.  I wanted very modern and contemporary furniture to show the character's wealth contrasted by the overly simplified portrayal of the walls and window.  I wanted the set to make an immediate impression of the characters psyche from the moment the audience walked in.

“Within Planet Ant’s small black-box confines Jennifer Maiseloff has created a set which subtly conveys Hannah’s worlds. (Interesting that an agoraphobic has walls filled with paintings of steps and corridors leading to – Where?)”- Amy J. Parre…

The setting is a Manhattan apartment in 1968. This date is elegantly affirmed by scenic designer Jennifer Maiseloff’s tasteful choice of mid-century furniture and accessories
